Located just off the kitchen, this room was originally designed for dining—the adjustable Ligne Roset Crescendo coffee table can be raised to 28.75 inches—but most days Bill and Abbie prefer to eat outside or at their casual Caesarstone-topped kitchen island. Today the space serves as a sunny reading spot and guest room, with a convertible futon (from Ligne Roset, since discontinued) and a set of leather-and-steel Paulistano armchairs from Design Within Reach.

The second iteration of the Boiacca table that LucidiPevere designed for Kristalia recasts its slim concrete silhouette with wood legs and white laminate or black Fenix-NTM top.

“There are a lot of well-loved, well-used pieces that were destined for this house,” Andrea says of the couple’s furniture collection. They placed a solid alder Homestead table from Whittier Wood Furniture in the office, which also overlooks the pond.

“With this flowerpot form we saw an opportunity to do everything using only a single piece of concrete," says Sáez. "It’sa simple, direct form of architecture." A cantilevered slab of Colorado wood, secured in the gap beneath a concrete block, serves as a dining table. Pasternak paired this with a vintage chair made of rare Caoba wood. To fill other gaps between blocks, the architects alternated strips of wood with strips of Plexiglas that let in light from the adjacent kitchen.

For the dining room table, Hirsh and Volny collaborated with local company TCWoods, an urban sawmill that makes custom furniture and art from downed trees. Based on a classic George Nakashima design, the table is made from a maple tree that had been in front of Boulder High School.

Nearby, the bathroom includes a composting toilet and a Home Depot sink on a pedestal Chris made from chunks of found wood.

A vintage wood lamp and turned bowl stands next to the bed. "We wanted to incorporate elements used in residential homes," Hollis says of the eclectic medley of accessories and furnishings in the space. "These would be items that you would collect over time. They don't exactly match, but they all work together—they create a relaxed casual environment while still elevating the interior and amenities to what you expect from a world-class luxury property."

The Blues Are Still Blue Grinding down the concrete floor was too costly, so the Benoits had it painted blue with inexpensive Benjamin Moore latex floor-and-patio paint and then sealed with Zinsser shellac—a natural, nontoxic product that brushes on and can be easily touched up. A Two Spheres ceiling lamp from Atelier Areti hangs above the Hansen’s dining table, which includes an inset—one side is wood, the other stone.

The warm material palette extends to Berryman’s bedroom. Like the rest of the apartment, it features work by New York designers, including a custom wood bed by Asher Israelow and a Table Light desk lamp by Lindsey Adelman.

The courtyard acts like an outdoor living room, where the Arnolds’ daughter, Josie, plays freely, safe from nearby traffic. The family dines here most of the year at the custom-designed wood-and-steel table. The picnic table set reappropriates the century-old eucalyptus tree that once grew on the site.

Tom Givone sits at a table of his own design, which he had fabricated from reclaimed wood by a local carpenter.

Don designed and built the white-oak kitchen table, which is cantilevered so knees don’t bump the underpinnings.

The architects designed the large dining table, which is framed by the open kitchen, the wood-burning stove, and the garden beyond.

In her workshop, which features a Mercedes table, an Otto lamp, and a wood-and-leather bar stool, all by NET, she creates a line of uncomplicated wood toys called Sarmiento.

Interior designer Danielle Roberts sought practical materials for the living room, such as custom wide-wale upholstery for a CB2 sofa. The fallen-wood coffee table is by St. Louis–based designer David Stine; the chair is by Hans Wegner for Carl Hansen & Søn.

Though small, Treanor’s house feels spacious thanks to an open kitchen and a tranquil mezzanine.

Four easily assembled pieces of wood join together to create Hans J. Wegner's timeless 1944 Peter's Table and Chair set. In maple or in beech wood, this furniture set can withstand life's knocks.

Set amongst the trees, with its simple form and earthy adherence to wood, the home fits in well. "Veronica and I walked the land for many months before we decided where to put the house," says Hirsh. The trip from garage to first floor is through a wood-clad spiral staircase that resembles a giant slatted barrel.

The units don't even require foundations—simple ground screws from Krinner are enough to support them.

The main showroom and event space is defined by a 50-foot-long wood table, made from three, solid Douglas fir planks. Dinesen's signature, clean floors cover the entire showroom.

While it's not your traditional backsplash material, when properly prepared and treated, wood can make for an effective, functional, and beautiful backsplash. Here, the wood backsplash matches the wood of the nearby kitchen island in an otherwise white kitchen with white cabinetry.

The diminutive Morsø wood stove and its hearth of local Criehaven beach stone gives off enough heat to warm the entire cottage.

"We composed the house to have its highest, brightest space in the middle," says Paul Raff. Warm wood stairs lead to the second floor, which houses guest bedrooms, bath, and a kitchenette for the family's frequent visitors.

Farm Table by MatterMade "This goes against the hard angles of a typical farm table," Hesser says. "There’s something about the way the legs angle to the ground that make it feel very welcoming. I can imagine eating dinner at it, but it also could be a backup workspace in your kitchen. You could mix it with vintage chairs and pieces from different eras."

The Roastery is located in 1920s building on Seattle's "Auto Row," an area formerly occupied by the city's car dealerships. The design team restored the original facade, and preserved portions of the ceiling and Terrazzo and concrete flooring.
