We visited the launch of the Axor Bouroullec line earlier in design week and loved the playful and practical take on bathroom design. The German company won for Best Kitchen and Bath.

See for Yourself After painting the sitting room room Kendall Charcoal from Benjamin Moore’s Aura line, Neely wanted a sculptural element that would show up against the dark hue. So he assembled his white Algues set, designed by the Bouroullec brothers for Vitra, on the wall behind the sofa with pillow by Judy Ross. “Though the Bouroullec piece is manufactured in mass quantities, you can create your own take on it,” he says. “It looks great no matter how you place it. I think of it almost like an inkblot—the randomness is part of its beauty.”

Furniture: CornichesThe Bouroullec brothers developed the idea for Corniches out of a need for small storage space for small items. Meant to better utilize horizontal surfaces, the Corniches are designed to be isolated protrusions in the home environment.

Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec In 2012, the brothers Bouroullec collaborated with Danish company Hay on wooden furniture for the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Copenhagen. Inspired by a Bernt Petersen–designed trestle chair that they saw at the university, the updated seat design—in which two halves meet at an exaggerated, elegant seam—is fittingly reminiscent of an open book. Both chair and table are available in soap-treated beech and stained or lacquered oak.

We spotted the Axor Bouroullec line at ICFF in May, and the German company exhibited the new series on the show floor. Here's a shot of the tub.

Philippe Starck's line for Duravit was another highlight.

Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec released the Can sofa, a flat-pack design with a canvas and steel tube frame.

"The idea was to try to find a motif that is in relation to the perimeter," Ronan says of the Lattice collection.

Classics, the way I think about them at least, aren't always the objects that are the most groundbreaking, but are more the ones that people really want to live with." Nanimarquina will display the Lattice collection by the Bouroullec brothers, as well as a collection by Neri & Hu. See it at the Rho fairgrounds, Hall 16, Stand E34.

“For me, as a product designer, I feel like the strongest political action that any citizen makes is by buying things," designer Erwan Bouroullec says. "We are buying things all the time, and of course, it has a huge, huge consequence on the way the world goes.”

The Lattice collection is handmade in Pakistan using the centuries-old kilim technique.

The prototype for the Officina series of wrought-iron furniture by the Bouroullec Brothers for Magis was unveiled in 2014, but this year the production pieces debuted. "If you compare it to cooking, to play with wrought iron is just like having an incredible fish," Erwan Bouroullec says. "In design, [manufacturing] techniques are like flavors. In the case of wrought iron, you've got a really, really rare flavor."

Starck Organic Faucet by Philippe Starck for Axor by Hansgrohe Chrome is given a softer look in this streamlined fixture, which integrates handles into the faucet body.

The Axor Starck V by Starck Network for Hansgrohe. The reason this glass faucet is extraordinary and deserves an award is clear (see what we did there?) but we’ll go into it anyway. For one thing, the faucet head detaches from the base to drain excess liquid. Secondly the entire faucet swings from side to side, adjusting for the user’s stance. Philippe, you win again.

The North bathroom features Rox Solar yellow ceramic tile by Modwalls Rex Ray Studio, a custom vanity, marble countertop with knife-edge detail, and Axor Bouroullec faucets. Signature Trustile Doors & Emtek Hardware which are showcased throughout the house.

“The Bad Axe Table gets its name from a lake in Minnesota, where I am from. I liked the name because of the split down the center of the table.”

Sayes and Stock furnished their living area with a Slow Chair by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec for Vitra, and a Spar floor light by Jamie McLellan for Resident. A print by Stephen Bambury sits atop a sideboard that Sayes built while studying at the University of Auckland.

Bouroullec Studio also presented a 13-piece outdoor collection called Palissade, made of powder-coated steel in a forest green shade.
