The guesthouse is clad in vertical white vinyl siding. Kelli had decking constructed out of engineered wood and cedar.

Sheer Genius The master bedroom wall that faces the light well is made from a double layer of corrugated-plastic panels, with a sheet of vinyl from Canal Plastics Center sandwiched between them for translucency. The wall lets sunlight and moonlight into the room while still maintaining privacy.

Interlocking rubber tiles from HiddenLock provide a watertight seal for the floor. Primarily used in garages, the tough, spill-friendly tiles cost about $3.15 per square foot.

The birch plywood panelling was made off-site by the manufacturer and assembled by the builders on-site. The visual continuity of the single material makes the restricted-height storage areas appear full-height.

An exposed ceiling allows for the maximum height to be achieved in the limited space. The consistent use of plywood throughout also makes the complex space feel more cohesive and expansive.

Above a height of 2.4 meters, the internal walls have been whitewashed. This, along with the double-height void above the living room, helps to give the small home a voluminous feeling.

A split bathroom allows the sink to be easily accessible in the main living area of the school bus, and a toilet and shower are tucked behind a yellow barn door.

A folding glass NanaWall system "allows the clients to keep an eye on their kids while working in the kitchen," says Blaine, who dubbed the space the 'NanAtrium.' "It helps keep the kids safe and contained, and helps the family get back to enjoying life." A swing door provides easy in-and-out access when the glass wall isn't fully opened.

The crumbling stone walls of a 17th-century farmhouse in the remote countryside of Dumfries, Scotland, presented a unique renovation opportunity for Lily Jencks Studio and Nathanael Dorent Architecture, the teams behind this project. Rather than demolish the old walls, they inserted a crisp, modern home within them, so as to emphasize the site's history and passage of time.

The Airstream Haus’s interior is minimalist, but comfortable, boasting a fully functional kitchen and queen-size bed that doubles as a couch.

To create a spacious feel, Martin installed large, double-glazed windows and a Velux skylight. "The windows, together with the operable skylight, act as a solar chimney to passively cool the space," he notes.

Now, the view from the front door is into the dining area. Note the angled shelf at the entry, a geometric detail which will be a reoccurring motif throughout.

The rear bedroom includes two twin beds that can be converted into a large king.

The kitchen was in a "miserable state" when the couple moved in, Nick says. Half of the kitchen is now blanketed in a serene shade of blue. The crumbling cabinets were also replaced with secondhand ones enhanced with an Ikea worktop, while the cracked floor tiles were covered with removable black vinyl flooring.

Custom CNC-cut Baltic Birch built-ins spawned the pull-out sofa, as well as the bed frame in the distance. "Built-in couches, closets, and cabinetry are a big part of all our units," says Brian Buzarde, co-founder of Land Ark RV.
