The Max-A studio is also built with a pine frame, though it has pine panelling on the ceiling, while the main house ceiling is painted a warm white.

Amending Meeuwissen’s early request for an open bathroom space, the architects devised a more private chamber with an overhead skylight and walls in stone tile from Intercodam Tegels.

“Durability drove the selection of metal panels,” Schaer says of the home’s industrial exterior. Manufactured by AEP SPAN from corrugated cladding, it looks like zinc but costs significantly less. It also contrasts nicely with the natural siding and trim. “All of the wood inside and out is Douglas Fir, the predominant wood species in the northwest,” Schaer explains.

The iconic waste bin that gave Vipp its start is a mainstay in the Egelunds’ home, as are many of the company’s streamlined design solutions. The waste bins, shelves, glasses, and ceramics are by Vipp.

The Armadillo is parked on a 1,000-square-foot lot that gives the couple ample outdoor space.

Desk and table lamps typically provide light in a downward direction, illuminating the surface directly below it rather than providing a general glow, which prevents them from often being used as ambient lights.

The Egelunds rely on the light fixtures and small ceramics to add contrast and texture.

The newly released Original 1227 Brass Desk Lamp in Dusty Blue is both cheerful and sophisticated.

The design was created using a mixture of water and gelatin with algae materials. Pigment is then placed on top of the surface. It’s critical that the pigment doesn’t sink to the bottom of the gelatin bath since the next step involves pressing coated papers against the pattern. The result is a print of the marbled texture. The original prints are cut up, uploaded, and then reconfigured digitally. Installing the wallpaper is done with panels that are double-cut and connected to create a seamless effect.

All told, they hung some 28,000 linear feet of the material with the larger sections composed of around 250 stalks. Each pole is threaded with galvanized steel wire and separated from the next by a small aluminum spacer. A highly renewable resource, the untreated bamboo has aged over time; what started as yellow-green has turned into a muted gray just a year after completion.

The steel-and-wood stairs lead to the master bedroom and study.
