Sticker Shock

Though colorful dashes here and there certainly enliven the sober interior, little adds a dose of whimsy like the wall decals found in the kids‘ rooms. The owl over Jonne‘s shoulder is available from Raumgerecht and the branch leaves are from the Dutch company Inke.

WALL DECALS FROM BLIK

Little adds a bit of visual spice to the walls like a pop of color. Wallpaper is a fine bet, and the growing glut of the stuff should make it easy enough to separate the wheat from the chaff. Wall decals have also had something of a vogue, and in that vein we turn to the 2x4 collection for Blik. A handful of new designs by 2x4, a firm of identity designers who have worked for MTV, Prada, and other "seems-I've-heard-of-them" brands, are certainly worth a look. In fact they defy you not to notice them.

The home already has a vivid color scheme, but to energize certain areas further, Bestor and Grunbaum added murals to some of the walls. Aside from the vinyl decals in the bathrooms, the stairwell is painted to evoke Grunbaum’s family home in the 1970s. Designer Mina Javid created a faux headboard for the master bedroom. minajavid.com

Shai carefully salvaged the Airstream’s original kitchen, changing only the appliances and the paint. The wall lamp in the “studio” is a vintage piece Keren bought in New York during her studies at Parsons 12 years ago. Typographic decals delineate the different spaces. Los Angeles–based graphic designer Chris Loomis created a trio of window

decals for the house’s three bathrooms. Grunbaum went with a camouflage pattern for privacy in the master bathroom, which has a wall of floor-to-ceiling glass that looks onto an adjacent patio. “Because we’re sort of in the trees, I wanted to keep the plant theme going,” he says. laloomis.com

Fisher characterizes the house as having an “understated niceness” to it. “The clients wanted everything nice, but not precious,” Fisher says. “A comfortable and functional home that has hints of fun and colorful interjections—just like them.” Here, a painted wall with decals purchased on Etsy, Restoration Hardware’s Devyn Daybed, a Flokati rug from gilt.com, and custom drapery by Workroom Couture Home mix with a toy piano that’s been in the family for years.
