Flournoy’s favorite aspect of the design is that “every space in the house is used and appreciated.” This light-filled hallway overlooking the staircase connects the home’s two bedrooms to an upstairs living space, and provides the ideal spot for another bookcase. Flournoy and his partner found the hall chandelier, along with the salvaged mill table that they repurposed as their kitchen island, on a trip to Chicago.

LINDEN CHANDELIER Conceived of by designer Charles de Lisle for The Future Perfect, the Linden Chandelier takes its inspiration from a just-cut flowering bough. The organic form—crafted entirely from solid brass—gracefully suspends from its ceiling mount, adding drama and elegance to a poetically modern design.

SPAN Architecture recast this two-level space in New York City—previously a photography studio—as a loft-like residence that is rich in materials. A blackened steel staircase, executed by general contractor Richard Kaleta, leads to the private quarters on the duplex's second floor. The walkway is composed of custom etched glass, stretched across an open atrium to below.

Coastal Canal Home Dining Room

DZINE Concept did the interior design throughout. The dining room features a Liquid table by Baxter and Charme chairs from Busnelli.

The 82-foot-long pool gets quite a lot of use by Jeff and Millie, and especially by the kids, who are both on the local swim team.

Open enclosures and connections to adjacent living spaces keep the home inviting and airy rather than densely packed—a key feature for an owner of two dogs: Ben, a whippet, and Flynn, an Irish gypsy dog.

Ray sits at the central hearth on the north end of the comfortable sunken living area. From this perspective, you can see how the interior spaces flow into one another, passing one half-level up into the breakfast nook and kitchen and out from there onto the overgrown hillside. The various built-in furnishings have all been there since the house's construction.

In the living room, guests gather on a matching ebony sofa and daybed from Hudson and a pair of Jorge Zalszupin lounge chairs. An Yves Klein coffee table—filled with the artist’s signature International Klein Blue pigment— provides a vivid burst amid otherwise organic tones. The walnut-and-bronze cabinetry is a custom design.

The dining room table is also from Habitat. The oak veneered plywood is from Peter Benson Plywood.

A third-floor courtyard stands in for a backyard and gives Elodie, the couple’s two-year-old daughter, a place to play outdoors. A Hunting chair by Børge Mogensen shares the space with a child’s chair by Tomii Takashi and a vintage Danish coffee table.

Mori’s addition is constructed of steel, concrete, glass, and bluestone veneer. She decided to preserve the ceiling height of the main house (11’6”) and lined the roof with Voltaic solar panels.

Resident Richard Kim, who works as the head of design at electric car company Faraday Future, tested his know-how with the creation of his own Los Angeles home, a curvilinear structure clad in Cor-Ten steel and black-stained cedar.

As in many renovations, decorative touches, like this Marcel Wanders chandelier, were occasionally installed before more critical elements.

The Stokk chandelier by Urbancase from Standard Socket’s first collection consists of one to five walnut arms, all adjustable by the user.

The home’s informal dining space has a slightly rustic feel, sporting bronze and wood in the form of a Lindsey Adams Adelman chandelier for Roll & Hill and a table by Terry Dwan, mixed with folk-art touches like the Eames House Birds and a cuckoo clock from Diamantini & Domeniconi. The PK8 chairs from Republic of Fritz Hansen were designed by Poul Kjærlholm and sourced from Kuhl-Linscomb in Houston, Texas.

In the dining room, the vintage table and chairs are set off by a Modo Chandelier from Roll & Hill and a vibrantly patterned Anthropologie rug.

The entrance opens into a light-filled hall, with a Marcel Wanders chandelier and a Luna console table by Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance.

The dining room’s high drama is thanks to a Cellula chandelier by Nunzia Carbone and Tiziano Vudafieri, a sleek Colors table by B. Fattorini for MDF Italia, and a massive yellow painting on the wall by Polish artist Pitor Uklański.

A SHY 04 pendant light from Bec Brittain adorns the master bath. The custom vanity is made from oak charred with Shou sugi ban. The fixtures are Grohe.

When one thinks of a chandelier, often an elaborate, shimmery fixture comes to mind. With its Industrial Chandelier, Workstead pares this idea down to capture the function of a chandelier—an overhead lighting fixture—with the simplicity of clean lines and a flexible design. The three-arm chandelier can be reconfigured into a variety of shapes, making it an adaptable piece for a many interior spaces. Structured as a horizontal fixture, the Industrial Chandelier can hang just three feet from the ceiling, or as a vertical piece, it can hang five feet for a more dramatic effect. Crafted from steel, repurposed industrial joints, and vintage Hubbell sockets, the lighting fixture has a mechanical, vintage aesthetic, while its minimalist design, exposed cords, and unshaded bulbs have an undeniably modern sensibility.

The catwalk above leads to the master bedroom. The living-dining room’s Stix chandelier is from Nido Living.

The space was reoriented in order to accommodate a third bedroom for the residents' second child. The adjustment required reducing the size of one of the existing bedrooms and relocating the kitchen, which now is an open-plan space next to the living room. A Major Crown chandelier by Nemo hangs above a Zeus-Noto table and Kartell chairs.

Heracleum LED chandelier by Moooi “One of the reasons I chose that was because it’s beautiful. The form itself conducts the electricity. The thing about that light at this moment is, everybody loves the hell out of it. I don’t even have to put any words to it really, everyone who walks in the door thinks it’s beautiful. Even though it’s nearly $4,000, I sell more of that than any single light in the store. I’m not choosing that piece, per se, but the people have spoken.”

Wire stair balustrades create an airy vibe while reinforcing the linear wood detailing throughout. In the dining area, a Sputnik-style chandelier by Rewire in Los Angeles hangs above an oxidized maple table from BDDW and Clifford Pascoe chairs from Metropolis Modern.

With its four rods, the Tube Chandelier casts a striking shadow when lit. Available in either satin brass or black plated stainless steel.

Lindsey Adelman’s Agnes Chandelier for Roll & Hill with ten lights adds a punch of avant-garde to what is normally considered a traditional light fixture. To match the room’s color scheme, Hill went with the bronze finish, but we also like the futuristic polished aluminum option (shown here). $8,000

Urban Electric Company owner Dave Dawson learned that handcrafted isn’t everything when he got feedback from clients who love the company’s lighting fixtures, like Steven Gambrel’s Suffolk chandelier, but not the wait.
