"All Things Sweet and Sour," Selin + Selin Architecture Drawing a straight line between the contemplative nature of ice shanties and houses of worship, Selin + Selin Architecture built two pitched-roof mini chapels so they could be in dialogue with each other.

Field + Supply takes place at the Black Barn in High Falls, New York. Brad Ford, the event's organizer sought to feature designers who produce modern forms using traditional techniques as well as retailers who offer expertly curated shops. The Commons, whose pieces are shown here, specializes in selling housewares made in the USA. "In my experience, design fairs sometimes take themselves a little too serious," Ford says. "I thought it would be fun to shake things up a bit, but still have an amazing group of makers who are incredibly talented and well respected in the area of design."

What do you wish was easier to make and source in the USA? Extremes exist in the production of home goods. There are either very small-scale artisans or established mass producers; our challenge is finding and supporting those who wish to operate somewhere in the middle. Chen Chen + Kai Williams shared the process behind their new fruit planters in a master class at the Bowery Hotel hosted by Sight Unseen. Attendees cast molds of their own and left with the next best thing to a Chen and Kai original—one they’d made themselves.
