TWENTY FIVE LUSK Restaurant designed by CCS Architecture This restaurant in the SoMa neighborhood of San Francisco transformed a former meatpacking and smokehouse facility while leaving hints of the warm brick and aged wood beams.

Eujin: Pasolini and Fassbinder Retrospectives at BAM/PFA Come September, my second home will be at the Berkeley Art Museum/Pacific Film Archive Theatre. Reason? Film auteurs Pier Paolo Pasolini and Rainer Werner Fassbinder are each being honored with career retrospectives. Pasolini starts from September 20-October 31 with Accattone (1961) and Fassbinder joins in on October 4-29 with Love Is Colder Than Death (1969). Bonus: Some films are newly restored 35mm prints!

Inspirational spaces

Point Blank (1967) The cult classic starring Lee Marvin features a slaying beneath the 4th Street Bridge. It was neither the first nor the last bout in the riverbed, but it remains one of the most iconic.

The Mesh Notebook from HAY takes a simple desk accessory and gives it a design upgrade. The flexible cardboard cover of the notebook has been perforated, alluding to the look of mesh fabrics. Available in four soothing colors, each notebook in the series includes an elastic band that can be used to secure loose items within the notebook, and it can also be used as a bookmark.

Also included are a wide range of clothing designs for women and girls.

The cotton-covered Asema Notebook from Marimekko features a bold orange and red pattern. Filled with 160 blank pages, this book will inspire note-taking, sketches, and doodles alike. The notebook includes a contrasting striped bookmark to make it easy to keep your place.

British artist Hannah Sawtell and technologist Avi Flombaum created sawbaum.com, where users can create visual collages using multiple vine streams. "We wanted it to look like a visual comic book, with overlapping panels," said Flombaum. "And we wanted it to be fun!" Photo courtesy Rhizome.

Cushion the Blow I prefer foam-wrapped cushions with some down. The down is soft, and the foam retains the shape of the cushion. With pure down, the cushion needs to be fluffed every time you get out of your seat and it looks sloppy. Murphy 81-inch sofa by Room & Board, $1,399.

The bi-level car barn, a spare, timber-clad structure with an A-frame roof, nods to traditional farmhouses, but is “sleek and contemporary in spirit,” says Geremia. Inspired by an old photo of a porcelain farmhouse sink, it features polished concrete floors.

David Guarino A Zillion Ideas A multimedia agency founded by this French-born photographer launched the product line "everythingisaremix" that examines mashup and remix culture. These hats and skateboards are covered with vintage Japanese kimono fabrics, successfully blending two important design icons from two different eras.

Wakako Kita Wacco by Wakako Kita As the daughter of Toshiyuki Kita, a legendary Japanese furniture designer, the illustrator and product designer was exposed early on to the world of locally-manufactured craft. Oriori bags are based on origami concepts, allowing them to be folded into smaller and smaller volumes until they become a thin strip of fabric which can be easily tucked away.
