“We are still getting to know the house, becoming acquainted with and learning to inhabit the space. We see this as a life project, and we aim to spend more time here as we grow older,” adds Antonio.

To stay within budget, Han and Mihalyo spent seven months and all of their free time building the house. As a result, the couple is well- acquainted with every square inch of their home. As Han says, “If there’s a nail in the wall, we know exactly what’s behind it.”

The home's main entry—two levels off the street—forces guests to get intimately acquainted with the steep topography of the site. Although the home's residents have the option to enter via garage and interior stair, guests instead travel up exterior stairs at the corner of the site, passing the planted neighboring lot to reach the home's front door.

Snyder and Martin's move brought about an entirely different lifestyle--one that involved a house, a yard, and for Snyder, the chance to launch his own firm, Mitchell Snyder Architecture, after first acquainting himself to Portland, Oregon, as a designer at Scott Edwards Architecture. His first project on his own: a chicken coop for the couple's new feathery friends.

I first became acquainted with the work of American-born designer Don Shoemaker a few months back at the San Francisco Modern show. Sebastian + Barquet had three lovely pieces from the man, who relocated to Mexico to work with tropical hardwoods. This chair is made of one of his favorite materials, cocobolo wood.

Atelier Verkant, based in Beernem, Belgium, referenced the journey of Ulysses for their stunning installation entitled 'Clay Journeys': "Tell me, O muse, of that ingenious hero who travelled far and wide after he had sacked the famous town of Troy. Many cities did he visit, and many were the nations with whose manners and customs he was acquainted." —The Odyssey, book 1.

Big families will gravitate toward this spacious lake house with the wraparound deck and sun-streaked kitchen on Puget Sound’s Anderson Island. Grab a rowboat or kayak to become acquainted with Lake Florence just outside, or head to Interlachen Park, a block away, to play tennis. Do spend the evening with a nightcap by the fire pit, but during cold spells, watch a film on the projector in the open-plan living area or better yet, curl up by the wood stove.

Phoenix, after becoming well acquainted with each element, began exploring how he could play with it. He started putting posts in, one after the other, through the holes. The possibility that I had not thought of, but knew could arise with the provision of infinite opportunities for assemblies through these holes, was one of them. This was gold, as it was exactly what I had imagined the holes provided: opportunities for kids to create their own worlds, which are a reflection of themselves. All of this clearly showcased Phoenix’s way of thinking and his kinesthetic intrigue.
