Named due to its proximity to the Contemporary Arts Center and Aronoff Center for the Arts in Cincinnati, 21C—designed by Deborah Berke—reflects a variety of artistic movements with Dali-esque chairs and pop art colors. It is located in the Metropole building, a local landmark built in 1912 and restored as part of its latest transformation.

The architects wanted to create as much of a buffer as possible against the urban traffic outside the kitchen. A clerestory window manages to maintain a visual connection with the neighborhood while blocking its noise. The kitchen features Pleat Box pendant lights from Marset and Lio Stools by Roberto Barbieri for Zanotta.

In 1974, Bertoia began work on a commission for the Standard Oil Building in Chicago. To complement Edward Durell Stone's modernist masterwork, Bertoia envisioned a collection of eleven sound sculptures stationed in a 4,000-square-foot reflecting pool at the skyscraper's foot.
