Located in Queensland, Australia, the residence was created by Sarah Waller Design, an architectural studio that’s based in the Queensland suburb of Doonan. The glass pavilion–style home was designed for Sarah Waller and her family and sits on top of a polished concrete slab. Inspired by the midcentury era, it looks out to the Noosa Valley golf course.

The plywood joinery conceals a portable table for eating and working, a bed for two people, a kitchenette, and ample storage space. The interior has been designed to be flexible enough to adapt to different everyday situations, solving the basic needs of living.

The clients—Diego, a lawyer, and Tatiana, an environmental engineer—were both born and raised in Guayaquil, ​​a small port city located in Santa Elena Península of Ecuador located an hour and a half from the coast.

The Sallin residence was designed by Richard Dorman, a lesser-known contemporary of John Lautner and Craig Ellwood (whose design is the focal point of our Hollywood Renovation Backstory series). Dorman designed a handful of residences and commercial buildings in the Los Angeles region in the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s, and relocated to Santa Fe in 1975.
