Three generations, each with its own tastes and schedules, needed to share one address. To make this possible, designer Deana Lewis of DOODL created three floors with distinct adult- and kid-friendly spaces that would be flexible over time. Broom-finished concrete on the walkway and steps lead up to a front door painted Benjamin Moore’s Electric Orange—a color inspired by a wine bottle’s label.

We created a platform at the entry of the bedroom so you could walk into the room at the same level as the rest of the house. Creating this platform allowed easy access to the new home office location and master bathroom. Prior to the remodel you had to walk down the stairs into the bedroom and up more stairs to get into the bathroom. This area is accented by a gorgeous floating pecan desk, open shelving that acts as a decorative railing, and an original brick wall that we discovered during construction.

By placing the car park underneath the building, he gained the space to create a sprawling structure that built upon ideas developed for the famous Johnson Administration Building in Racine, Wisconsin. This exceptional sketch depicts the structure at night, when a proposed grid of pyramidal skylights made from copper and glass resemble a luminous tent city.
