Paula Leen and Kees Middendorp lived in their home for 16 years before they finally purchased and renovated it.

Sheep skin stools by Gerður Guðmundsdóttir-A graduate from IADT Tampa, Guðmunsdóttir pays homage to Mies van der Rohe but creates pieces that are distinctly Icelandic. For her DesignMarch submissions, she accepted a challenge from her uncle to work with Icelandic sheep skin, famous for its long outer coat. The result, a bench and a set of stools showing the versatility of the material. "I love the raw and wildness of the natural uncut sheepskin,” Guðmunsdóttir told me. “I made a bench using that, and went the opposite direction for a completely different but complimentary look for the stools with cut sheepskin." Colorado. David Larabee and Dexter Thornton are the forces behind DoubleButter, a furniture manufacturer based in Denver. Available in forming plywood or walnut with steel legs, the Sheep End Table is a playful storage piece.

Leen and Middendorp’s living space is peppered with an assortment of objects and textures, including sheep’s wool, an antique French farmhouse table, salvaged chairs, a Glo-Ball light by Jasper Morrison for Flos, and an Axel leather sofa by Gijs Papavoine for Montis.

Inspired by the tough-to-find Rocking Sheep by Danish designer Povl Kjer, this fuzzy rocking toy is huggable and easy on the eyes. (Pottery Barn, $129)

This barn-like residence enjoys sweeping views from all sides to the picturesque Northern California landscape that surrounds it: Mayacamas Mountains, roaming sheep, and Monterey pines. An L-shaped ipe deck connected the main residence to an art studio and forms a cozy courtyard, complete with pool.

Having worked most of her life on a sheep farm, Claire is well educated, intelligent and unfailingly loyal. Now getting on in years and officially retired, she still skips like a pup in the mornings when it's time for a walk. The original Victorian weatherboard facade has been carefully restored and a modern and spacious two-story timber-clad building added at the back. Travertine floors integrate the internal and external areas.

Claudy Jongstra's Drenth Heath is a densely hand felted wool made from her own sheep.

Jongstra’s flock of Drenthe Heath and Schoonebeeker sheep are sheared yearly and provide the raw material for most of her work. The sheep roam the countryside as part of a conservation initiative to help reinforce the polders and dykes throughout the province.

Where the roof meets the ground, the dramatic pitch serves a practical purpose: Local sheep have a habit of climbing on top of homes with sod roofs and then getting stuck, but if the angle is severe enough, they’re deterred from even trying.

Located about 3,280 feet above sea level, Thunder Top rises like a hill in a moorland of weather-beaten dwarf birches and heathers. Wild reindeer herds and grazing sheep can often be seen dotting the landscape.

An impressive 16-foot island. Cozy nooks on either side of the kitchen adorned by sheep skin for a comfortable afternoon coffee or curling up with a great book.

A simple, clean palette and double-duty lighting brighten up the entryway. Chioco selected a thin suspension light in brass from Juniper Lighting, a blue Scandinavian kilm runner from Black Sheep Unique, and a Danish bench from The Renner Project to cozy up the space.

The architects focused on natural and locally sourced materials wherever possible, from local larch to the custom-made sofas and rugs woven from local sheep wool by Hermann Kühbacher. The furnishings were mainly custom made and designed by Plasma Studio.

Located on a working farm, the hard-working home helps owners Michael and Anna RiCharde transition easily from inside to outside. "I'll be out in the fields handling sheep, then I can just walk inside, go right to the laundry room, drop my dirty clothes, and close it off,

The King Desaspada Hebpurn bed from UrbanSpace Interiors features two zodiac pillows from Marfa—a Gemini for him and a Scorpio for her. The side tables are also from UrbanSpace Interiors. The pendant in blackened brass is from Allied Maker, and the rug is a vintage Herki Runner from Black Sheep Unique.

Bouchain designed the sleeping areas in the larger buildings with hemp, jute, and sheep’s wool as a way to enhance the property's nature-inspired aesthetic.

Arthur’s Cave, by Miller Kendrick Architects, references King Arthur and will be insulated with locally sourced sheep’s wool.

The sheep graze in their pasture, which is separated from the rest of the property by the knee-high wall, cleverly hidden in the landscape.

The wall that keeps the sheep in their pasture blends in with its surroundings and doesn’t compromise the beautiful views from the house.

The Inheritance sectional sofa in Green Canvas from Stephen Keen is one of the couple’s favorite pieces. “I like how it still has dimension but doesn't take up much space,” Bjorndahl says. There are also coffee tables from Stephen Kenn as well as a Haik Vintage area rug from Black Sheep Unique. The colors for the first floor, as well as the rest of the home, play off the couple's love of the Southwest.
