Dining Room: Nothing changes the feel of a room like new lighting. Where other chandeliers can be complicated and heavy, the Hope Chandelier designed by Francisco Gomez Paz and Paolo Rizzatto for Luceplan provides a more optimistic installation.

"We hope that in time the house will make the client's lifestyle better by providing spaces that can change as they progress in life, much like how an outdoor space constantly changes with the environment," say the architects.

Pricing is not yet available for ENSAMBLE, but a single board of cholguán retails for about $5. By keeping assembly simply and using glue to join the system, the Andes House hopes to make it a cost-effective solution for the office and beyond.

The interior scheme prevents clutter in a variety of creative ways, including concealing a heat pump in the walls and installing flush-fitting LED spotlights. The architects explain, “Since the redesign, the prevailing impression is one of spaciousness, the suffusion of light and simple elegance.” A statement-making Hope Suspension Light by Luceplan is an elegant addition to the living area. The table, which was designed by the architects and fabricated by VHB Memmingen, is surrounded by CH24 Wishbone Chairs by Hans Wegner for Carl Hansen & Son.

The Gregory Residence is a masterclass example in design. Furnished by renowned New Hope woodworker George Nakashima, this private and rustic home offers ingenious versatility over its 1,644 square feet of space on a 10-acre lot.

Hope arranged the living room with a woven ottoman and rug that lend warmth and texture.

In the office, the table— a prototype they hope to put into production—was inspired by a Sol LeWitt work.

In transforming the living area into the dining area, Hope removed the linoleum flooring and refinished the wood flooring beneath it.

Mary Barensfeld grew up in a colonial-style home near Pittsburgh that was built by her grandfather and enlarged by her parents. In 2016, she and fellow architect Yvonne Riggie added a pair of rustic modern wings. One, a dining pavilion, includes a lounge that is warmed by a Bodart & Gonay woodstove. The entire room opens to the outdoors through a folding wall system by Hope’s Windows.

If they prove successful, Fordham hopes to reproduce the shutters for low-cost housing projects.

By redesigning the entire layout, Hope was able to create a more open concept, featuring a bright and airy atmosphere.

“Removing the wall afforded a larger kitchen footprint, and made the space more inviting,” Hope-Kennedy says.

When Wright created the initial sketches for the property at 83, he had hoped the house would surpass Fallingwater.

The owners asked to keep their magenta chairs, which Hope-Kennedy paired with a midcentury dining table.

“The client wished to more that double the size of the house,” Gurney said. “The goal was to provide the additional space as a series of smaller pavilions to allow the original historical house to be the most important part of the composition.” Steel swing doors by Hope’s Windows Inc. lead outside, and a custom standing seam metal roof slopes above the far end of the pool.

"A rehaul of this scale allowed me to indulge in my obsession with harmony and balance of scale, texture, weight, and flow," Hope explains.

Nestled among towering fir trees and magnificent dogwoods in Cobb, California—just an hour north of Napa Valley—is the 700-square-foot cabin Hope Mendes recreated as an idyllic family escape. "We’ve always had a dream of owning and renovating a cabin in the woods," Hope says, "a place [where] we could take our kids when we need to get away from the hustle and bustle of our work lives."

Hope replaced the upper wood cabinets with open shelving and painted the lower cabinets a shade of gray-green. Beneath the linoleum were wood floors that the designer refinished.

The exposed concrete of Casa Arboles is a neutral shade of gray. The architect hopes the material will weather over time to blend in with the landscape.

Hope stripped the house, but retained the foundations and frame. This allowed her to open the property up to the view of the valley by using fully-glazed doors.

To create more unified interior spaces, Hope designed a lofty, open-concept foyer, living room, and dining area that looks out to the valley.

The back garden is a perfect metaphor for what the couple hoped to achieve with their project. "We feel a part of the city, but there’s still this sense of privacy," says Ali.

The family of three (soon to be four) uses the minimalist-inspired cabin in the Catskills as their peaceful weekend getaway. In the future they hope to build a larger home and turn the cabin into a guest house.

Who says accessibility can’t be stylish? As designer Sherry Hope-Kennedy proves, the varying needs of a multigenerational home can all be answered in one cohesive design.

The courtyard is sunken because of the existing grade. The Albezia shade tree was planted when the outdoor area was still scrap yard, an “act of hope and faith in the future,” says Wittman.

Stainless steel—such as this mesh ceiling—gives residential interiors a utilitarian edge, says Michael Fohring of Odami, and it's a material choice he hopes to use in one of the studio's own projects soon.

The 800-square-foot house is among the first shipping container residences in San Diego County, according to Mike. He hopes it will soon by joined by a larger container home on the property, at which point it will become the guesthouse.

Carlos Somoza “really brought the project home,” says Brillhart. “With our hope of the architecture being connected to landscape, you need a great landscape architect on-board, and we had that in Carlos.”

Perched above a pond on 14 acres in Champaign, Illinois, this hut was designed for enjoying tea and meditation. Dominating the 97-square-foot structure is a butterfly roof, which channels rainwater to a central spout to be directed to the pond. Adding to the zen experience are water reflections that are projected onto the soffit throughout the day.

Hope painted the bedroom walls, ceiling and floor bright white, adding a fresh look and a feeling of spaciousness. "It's small," she says, "so I went with a simple bed frame and all-white linens to keep things light and bright."
