Women in Architecture Survey: According to the results of the Architect’s Journal Women in Architecture survey, the pay in the architecture field is still unequal and discrimination is common.

Commemorating women silenced via political oppression throughout history, this somber glass sculpture creates line and frames through a simple layout, as if inspired by the candles and snapshot that make up more ad-hoc memorials.

The U.S. State Department has just announced the representatives for the American pavilion at the 2014 Venice Architecture Biennale: New York's Storefront for Art and Architecture, helmed by the inimitable Eva Franch i Gilabert, will be programming the U.S. pavilion alongside Ashley Schafer of PRAXIS Journal and Ana Miljački, from MIT's architecture program. The trio—with input from Natasha Jen of Pentagram, Architizer, CLOG, and Leong Leong, who will design the pavilion's physcial space—will stage an "active, experimental architectural office that researches, studies, and remakes 1,000 projects designed by American architecture firms and exported abroad." Senior Editor Kelsey Keith moderates a panel on women and architecture, which sparked a lively discourse with members of the audience.

At the Brooklyn outpost of The Wing, the all-women co-working space, a meeting room is swathed in a mature color palette of monochromatic pinks with matching un-upholstered Beetle chairs. The walls are covered with wallpaper depicting the the face of women.

A couple takes a minimalist approach to their Brooklyn apartment, focusing on supple materials, subtle gradations of color, and custom finishes by local craftsmen. Exposed brick adds plenty of texture to the room.

ROAR Architects updated a former women’s refuge in London’s Kentish Town Conservation Area into two interconnected flats for a brother-and-sister duo. Housed in a historic Victorian, each of the flats have their own entrance. The interiors are also differentiated by their distinct color palettes and materials, which the architects designed to reflect the personality of each sibling.

Monthly subscription boxes have been all the rage in 2013; this one from Svbscription takes a specialized approach, packing each edition with full-fledged artisan goods. Past issues have explored themes like travel and "the unexpected" (pictured here); the next boxes will hold treasures surrounding the idea of "Maker" (featuring collaborators like James Corner Field Operation) and the company's first release geared specifically towards females, with gifts from Le Labo and Marimekko. London's sophisticated new co-working space dubbed The AllBright has a name that pays homage to former U.S. Secretary of State Madeline Albright and her famous remark, "There's a special place in hell for women who don't support other women."

Melanie van der Merwe of Women Unleashed furnished the interiors with bespoke and off-the-shelf pieces.

The at time ad hoc architecture of the buildings and the highly eroticized dress of the women working there are often at aesthetic odds.

Colors are everywhere, from women's clothing to food. These simple lights hanging on a house really caught my eye.

The double-height lending library anchors a corner of the open-plan room. The book collection was curated with the Strand Bookstore and includes 2,000 volumes from women authors.

At the Perch Cafe, the Clé Tile backsplash is a striking focal point behind the tulip tables and chairs from Cru. The cafe menu incorporates offerings from local women-owned companies.

With a front facade of glass, inviting double doors, and engineered wood cladding, this prefabricated she-shed was designed by Studio Shed and is often used as a home office for women starting their own businesses or who wish to work without leaving their children for the day.

In designing and building her own home practically alone, Mariah hopes to inspire women—and especially women of color.

Gabrielle Bullock graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design in 1984, becoming only the second African American woman to earn an architecture degree from the school. Even today, black women make up less than half a percent of registered architects.

A communal table sits in the lending library, which features over 2,000 female-written titles, all curated by the Strand Bookstore. A "Wing Women Reading List of 50 must-read titles," composed by The Lantern—a local non-profit bookstore run by Bryn Mawr grads—is also available for use.

Some of these panels pay tribute to Kazakh national women’s jewelry, symbolizing feminine strength, beauty, and connection to ancestral roots. Each panel holds symbolic meaning: • “Umai” – fertility and feminine essence.
