Kellogg spent five years working on the house, and the structure was completed in 1993.
A custom designed sofa or ‘baithak’ by OTLA runs along the periphery of the living room. The upholstery is fashioned out of 'Kala' cotton, hand woven in Kutch, Gujarat and has been designed by Leel. A stone bust of Vishnu from the client’s personal collection rests on a teak wood pedestal. The lamp is an old design from Ikea.

Bay window on the north side - designed at a height of 550 mm from the oor level, just enough to frame the forest on the opposite side when resting in the interior of the room. The reclaimed teak windows have been carefully crafted by skilled artisan - Prakash Kumavat from the Pokhran region of Rajasthan. A handmade clay tile oor, kiln-baked using the soil from the Abu region of Rajasthan is laid throughout the house. The gaddi and cushions atop the bay window have been customised using ‘Kala’ cotton, hand woven in Kutch and designed by Leel.
When Rob and Mary Lubera started pulling threads to uncover the origins of their new home—the lone midcentury house amid rows of Tudor Revivals in suburban Detroit—not even architecture scholars could have anticipated what they would find. Theirs is the last surviving residence by Alexander Girard (1907–1993), a modernist visionary who made his name in textiles but tried his hand at virtually everything, architecture included. The shoji-like laminate screens, seen in the entryway, are characteristic of his Japanese-influenced work.
