In 1977, favorite California's midcentury modern pioneers Charles and Ray Eames exhibited a selection of their bent plywood pieces at Washington University, including the leg splints they produced as part of the war effort in 1942, shown here hanging on the wall. Charles also studied architecture at Washington University, briefly, on scholarship for two years.

At just $167 per square foot, this high-design, low-cost barn in rural Wisconsin is an American idyll.
The Centre Pompidou in Paris opened in 1977 and was a collaboration between Rogers and fellow Pritzker Prize–winner Renzo Piano.
Outfitted with Pollock desk chairs and a marble-topped conference table by Knoll, the office in Monory’s French farmhouse pays homage to international design. The Tizio task lamp is by Richard Sapper for Artemide, and the leaning John Ild bookshelf was designed by Philippe Starck for Disform in 1977.
Designed by Eric Magnussen for Stelton, the Vaccum Jug contains a interior glass vessel to efficiently insulate beverages for hours on end. It's remained in production since its launch in 1977, it has continued to be released in new colorways, including these metallic finishes in gold, silver, and copper.
Before moving here, the family lived in a tract home with a “postage stamp yard,” says Jimmy, who heads a commercial construction firm. Now, on weekends, he likes to ride his dad’s 1977 John Deere tractor and mow the fields. “When I come home, I get to shut off from my day job,” he says.

On the market for the first time in over 30 years, this five-bedroom Eichler home is a midcentury modern gem with heaps of potential. The 2,177-square-foot residence, which has been mindfully expanded, features five bedrooms—including two master suites—and three baths.
Ellen Prasse, an art teacher, and her partner, artist and writer Kate Oliver, transformed their lives and this 1977 Airstream over the course of a year, bringing the trailer back to life and giving it a classic but modern redo. Small touches, like a matte black faucet and light fixture paired with stainless steel appliances, along with a mixing of dark and light wood finishes prevent the space from feeling too matchy-matchy and overwhelming.
Before: Architect Bernard Rasch designed this modernist rowhouse, one of six, in 1977. Richard and Nicole Kuchinsky bought this one in 2018, with the goal of remodeling it for their family while keeping the distinct features, like the wall of smoked glass in the entry.
