The feel of natural materials on the skin can make a home comforting. A Colour Carpet by Scholten & Baijings for HAY, made with 100% New Zealand wool, defines the play area in the child’s bedroom of this house in Hamburg, Germany.

In New York about two hours north of New York City, architecture and interiors firm BarlisWedlick created an eclectic compound designed to suit a client with an idiosyncratic wish list. In the kitchen, a custom Stickbulb LED lamp hangs above a kitchen island topped by concrete from Get Real Surfaces. The cabinets and island feature a modern version of a traditional board and batten siding that are given an even more contemporary feel with the concrete countertop.

The site faces the sea but is surrounded by tall pines. The green sofas are from Hay.

A George Nelson pendant hangs in the reconfigured entrance hall, whose stairs echo the concrete steps off the back deck.

Furniture adds a dose of texture and color to the minimal space. The living room features a HAY Mags Module sofa, Moroso Take a Line for a Walk fauteuil, Moroso Phoenix Table, and Flos Glo-Ball Lamp.

The Mags sofa is a simple design composed of modular units that vary in length.

Haier set up a tiny kitchen with built-in, 24-inch appliances to demonstrate how urban living can balance cost-effectiveness, functionality, and style.

Designer Hee Welling collaborated with HAY in order to produce this conspicuous collection of barstools titled A Chair.

In collaboration with Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec the CPH90 desk is an attempt to create a range of educational furniture for the University of Copenhagen.

Designed by Dutch studio Scholten & Baijings for Danish brand HAY, the Colour Glass Collection is a prismatic sight to behold, and includes crystal glassware for wine, water, and champagne, as well as a carafe. The ethereal, monochrome gradients and lines don't just make for a pleasing tabletop composition—they remind you of their uses: gold for water, pink for red wine, and blue for water.

In the home’s west-facing wing oriented toward the pond, Christopher, 10, sits in the dining area, furnished with a Luxor table by Cappellini, chairs by HAY, and a Counterweight pendant by Fort Standard. The fish sculpture is by Mark A. Perry, a local folk artist.

In the living room, the painting is by Geoff McFetridge and the wood paneling is original to the house. “Jewel-y color and simple shapes—they feel right in this house,” says interior designer Jessica Helgerson.
