Boris Berlin, one half of Iskos—Berlin, explains that, true to Muuto's focus on Nordic design, their Fiber chair is made entirely in Scandinavia, with an eco-composite shell made in Denmark, and chair legs made Sweden (save for the wooden base, which comes from Danish wood).

Of the Iskos-Berlin design, which carries on a strong modern tradition influenced by the Eames shell chair, Berlin says, “One of the most difficult and noble disciplines is to design without eccentricity." The chair's supernormal silhouette translates to different uses with four different bases (powder coated steel, sled, swivel, and wood), while the seat portion is 100% recyclable thanks to its eco-friendly composite mix using 25% wood fibers, 70% PP (polyproplene) and 5% coloured polyproplene.

“Everything is located around the perimeter to create as much usable space as possible,” says de la Vega. The firm designed the banquette to do double duty as a storage trunk, and the wall hides custom-made closets with holes for hanging paintings and models. By designing the custom cabinetry themselves, and journeying outside Houston to have them made, the Fords saved a bundle—money that they invested in appliances such as this highly efficient dishwasher from Asko, a Professional Series range from Bertazzoni, and an Energy Star–rated BI-30U fridge by Sub-Zero.

The kitchen was originally an awkward alcove facing the main living area. The architects expanded the room and installed a classic modernist ‘service core’ at the kitchen’s center; it features large appliances such as a Sub-Zero fridge and an Asko washer/dryer. This allows easy movement through the kitchen to the adjacent dining room and main hallways.

Iskos-Berlin’s Birth of Marilyn is a lampshade meant to evoke a skirt lifted by the wind. The duo behind the brand strives to develop products using rationalized production processes to generate a minimal waste of materials and other resources. The lampshades are made from two layers of mostly recycled PET felt.

The kitchen and butler's pantry were designed by Christopher Peacock, world-renowned cabinetry and hardware designer whose work is the hallmark of today's luxury kitchen. The counters and backsplash are made of Calacatta marble. The expansive center island features a walnut top prep area. Wolf/SubZero appliances include a 48" dual fuel range, 60" metal hood, 48" refrigerator drawers, wine refrigerator, and two Asko dishwashers.
