Resonant Surface 01 by Christine Yogiaman and Ken Tracy Seven horns crafted from wood veneer, each measuring 10 feet long, have been coiled and shaped together to help amplify a person’s voice, separated by 6-millimeter thick aluminum frames. The shape, initially a geodesic dome in the Buckminster Fuller mold, was reshaped into a bent octagon to accommodate the horns. The installation works as a resonating engine just like a trumpet horn, and distributes the sound so well, it’s actually hard to hear yourself when you’re standing behind it. Photo by Juan Roldan

A 4kw tiny wood-burning stove warms each cabin.

New zoning allowed for a zero-lot-line structure, but required a public storefront, which Carpenter uses as an art gallery.

Lightroom 1.0, a photography studio, is a freestanding structure on the property. “Together, they represent an autobiography of my career,” Carpenter says.

Project 01, a 262-square-foot micro cabin imagined by Canada-based Instead is clad with black-stained pine that helps it to meld with the natural landscape.

This garage space uses iconic checkerboard floor tiles to contrast the rustic barn door that provides entry to the rest of The Barn.

Another view of the garage reveals its extensive space to house vehicles and protect them from the elements.

Located in Ojochal, Costa Rica, at the edge of a large tropical rain forest, the multi-disciplinary firm of A-01 (A Company / A Foundation) designed a prefabricated home that would respond to its local environment by exclusively using passive climate control.
