Deiter Rams-designed SK 5 phonosuper, perhaps the most iconic audio design in the Braun archives.
Designed by Sydney-based practice Akin Atelier, this Bondi Beach abode is comprised of two volumes connected by a central courtyard that draws in natural light. The orientation of the 2,010-square-foot home allows for a playful rhythm of light, shadow, and air that gives it its atmospheric name, Cloud House.

One of Rams' most iconic designs, the SK 4 radio-audio combination is from 1956 and was co-designed with Hans Gugelot. Critics famously dubbed this stereo "Snow White's coffin," but the inclusion of a clear acrylic lid to a record player would soon become common. Leave it to Rams to put technology on show in this way.
THE 2020 MINIMALIST GIFT GUIDE
Once again, it’s time for my annual Minimalist Gift Guide. Curating thoughtful, well-designed items is a great joy, especially in a year that has been fraught with so many painful emotions. Sometimes it’s the small quiet moments that make all the difference, and point us back toward the goodness of humanity, bring hope for what is possible, and even push us to delight in the everyday simple pleasures that life affords.
Without further adieu, here is this year’s list organized in four categories: Carry, Writing, Tech, and Desk. I hope you enjoy!
