Central Bhutan enjoys cool year-round temperatures due to its high altitude. (The Tang Valley sits at around 9,186 feet above sea level.) To cope with the cooler temps, the Bhutanese have made chilies an integral part of their cuisine. Brave visitors can try Bhutan’s national dish, ema datshi, a fiery combination of spicy chilies and cheese made from goat, cow, or, more frequently, yak milk. Ogyen Choling guests gather for family-style meals served on a patio and its adjoining kitchen, where villagers who work on the property turn vegetables from the garden into hearty Bhutanese staples. Choden’s Swiss husband, Walter Roder, cultivates fresh produce in the garden, such as tibia-size carrots, tomatoes, leeks, and cauliflower.

The contents of this inflatable chair—shrimp, peas, corn, and carrots—would be the perfect addition to the fried rice you're making for dinner tonight.

Thanks to Carmen Natschke (aka The Decorating Diva) for pointing out this odd—but amazingly clever—gadget on the show floor. The Karoto sharpener and peeler by Israel-based Monkey Business creates rosettes out of carrots and other firm vegetables.

The Ligne Roset bloom couch is topped with a carrot pillow. “Our design furniture wish list kind of came true after we started blowing up,” says Josh. A Moooi rug lies under foot. Josh and Matt bought one Togo chair, and then happened to find a second on Facebook Marketplace for a steal. (The coffee table is from Marketplace as well.)

No, that's not carrot cake with cream cheese frosting, but a pig-intestine-and-blood "Haggis Torte" created by some local "food designers" as part of a four-year Designers and Farmers project updating regional foods into some brave new concoctions. Other delicacies included brittle, yogurt-type pops, and a rolled bread filled with something that tasted like shrimp but was not. When eating in Reykjavik, sometimes it's just better not to ask.

We love Debra Folz's Braided table series (which comprise bright leather cords woven around the rim of tables in varying sizes). But that's not the only cool thing you'll see at this year's WantedDesign exhibition: Bernhardt Design's Carrot Concept returns, along with Alessi Design Lab (more on that here), an Areaware and Parsons collaboration, and a Pacific Northwest designers installation curated by GRAY magazine and former Dwell-er Jaime Gillin. The Tunnel, located on 11th Avenue between 27th and 28th Streets
