Radamés “Juni” Figueroa lived in his art project tree house, made from found materials, for two fortnights, as part of his artist residency at La Practica at Beta-Local. "The Practice" is an interdisciplinary program of research and production focusing on art, architecture, and design, with an emphasis on collaboration.

Directly adjacent to the winter hall lies Icehotel 365, which allows guests to experience frozen accommodations all year round.

The recently completed two-unit dwelling known as Riverbend was designed and built by Bob Furno of local firm Furno Architects. While both units (Alpha and Beta) co-exist with minimal physical connection, they can also easily be combined to create a larger residential compound.

The final product is small enough to sit on a kitchen counter without being an obstacle. At three gallons, the tank is ideal for one three-inch-long fish or a few smaller one-inch fish. The founders recommend goldfish, betas, and other easy to care for species.

The Solar Stair is a cantilevered concrete spiral in the centre of the building, with Eduardo Paolozzi’s Black Hole mosaic at the base. The stair itself represents the solar year, with 52 steps cast in concrete with seven strips to produce a total of 365 grooves inscribed on the risers, one for each day of the year.

The Ricketts Apple-1 Personal Computer, named after its first owner Charles Ricketts, is the only known surviving Apple-1 computer documented to have been sold directly by Steve Jobs to an individual from his parents’ garage. It sold for $365,000 in a 2014 Christie’s auction.

At a net-zero home in San Francisco, the house's green roof is more of a brown roof: a desert-like array of native and non-native succulents that require minimal irrigation. The soil area is maintained with motorcycle tires (including one from a Harley hog), which control erosion. Composting takes place here as well.
