In the early 50’s, the Mackle brothers pioneered the development of Key Biscayne, a deserted, mosquito infested island off the coast of Miami. Mostly 1,200sf 3bed-2bath houses lined the streets, many financed by the military for WWII veterans.
Mackles are extremely simple homes, but in some cases these plain houses are great blank canvases for creativity, and this is the perfect example…

We took this old home and designed our client’s dream home, gave it a facelift, opened up spaces, enlarged windows, redesigned entrance, and replaced all original cheap materials.

Light grey Italian extra-large porcelain tile was used throughout the ground level, with an open concept living-dining and ultra-modern chef’s kitchen, with Italian cabinetry and Wolf / Subzero appliances.

The white-washed oak planks gave life to the old stairs, and covered the entire second floor master suite. A huge master bathroom and closet were redesigned and all other bathrooms were also updated with amazing new porcelain, and modern finishes.

The final touch, an overgrown backyard and nasty old pool were reborn. The pool and entire rear patio were converted into a resort-like space to entertain guests. The cedar planks on the ceiling and concrete faux-finish make great contrast. A new covered area with TV and seating, and a large wood deck were incorporated. Also a new operable pergola covers the state-of-the-art chef’s summer kitchen, equipped with a pro grill, green-egg and even a beer-on-draft cooler on the bar. Lighting and sound design are the cherry on top for this Ibiza private party.
