Wonderbar apartment / Arc. Eran Binderman

The apartment is located in the very heart of Tel-Aviv’s white city UNESCO district. However, the building itself has been quite run down over the years. The client asked to create “a self-contained haven with a chic European atmosphere”. It was important for me, as the designer, to respect the location and add local touches to the European flare.
The program asked for one nicely lit main space which includes living, dining and kitchen, 2 en-suite bedrooms, a place to work and a service area. The kitchen was created by positioning a box in the middle of the apartment. This box also holds the main AC unit for the spaces around and the working area on its perimeter, thus creating a more private area while still keeping a connection with the main space and natural light. The living room and dining room were brought together to maximize the size of the space and entrance of natural light. Metal mesh was used to create boundaries between functions in the main space: entrance- dining, working-kitchen, living- kitchen. A spiral orange peel metal staircase was introduced to bridge between the two floors, creating a sculptural element between the entrance and the service area.
The two en-suite bedrooms were designed in grey and brass tones providing a more calm and relaxed feel. The stone and brass details continue this ambience in the vanity rooms keeping the same total atmosphere. The lighting was a key element to give focus to specific points of the apartment.
