Vancouver House Renovation

This house on the West side of Vancouver was originally built in the 80s and distinctive to its age, partitioned the floor plan into many rooms. The objective was to completely transform the house with the goal of harmonizing the entire floor from all the different rooms into an inviting and functional space for everyday use, large family gatherings and intimate dinner parties.
The homeowner’s handsome taste and their collection of iconic modern furniture created the design attitude for this major renovation. There was an urgency to create something timeless to hold these classics. At the same time, the design was continually curious to the notion of can something timeless also be “new”?
The ambitions to create something timeless and “new” presented a path to the material palette. Breuer’s and Le Corbusier’s tubular steel furniture were inspirations for the kitchen hood fans and island lights. The raw use of wood in Eames molded plywood chair guided us to the use of natural wood in the design of the cabinetry. And the final product, led by the artisanship of these icons, resulted in a harmonious, timeless and fresh look.
