Clients picked the toughest lot they could find. It, of course, has the most incredible views perched above the Valley below. This site is the highest lot in the Seven Arrows subdivision of Desert Mountain Community in Scottsdale and features an old, abandoned quartz quarry to be part of its building envelope. Further, the Community Design Guidelines required an extensive lot specific list of criteria to be addressed and approved. The physical and jurisdictional challenges were set! Now to create a form that realizes the clients' program and dreams.
We engaged in the process and came up with a radial design to fit the site offering 220-degree views. Curved glass doors open up the 68 feet of the great room to blur the line of indoor-outdoor living space for this mountainside perch.
The forms are simpler and more expressive where the goal was that of achieving a flowing plan which nestles into and becomes of the mountain.
