Plum House is 3,000 square foot, two family wooden row house in Park Slope, Brooklyn. This is a vernacular Brooklyn architecture at its most unique. Plum House was originally built in the 1870’s for middle class Brooklynites. It was a small and simple wooden house that was 19 feet wide and 30 feet deep! We enlarged the home, added a rental unit and modernized the home to meet the demands of our contemporary age. Design features include a fantastic roof deck, MCM and vintage tile, exposed steel beams, high ceilings, a jib door, vintage fixtures gathered from auctions and a color scheme that is plum out front and a calming grey lavender hue inside. A botanical theme threads throughout. With Covid a part of our lives, I’ve incorporated lots of pocket doors and an ERV fresh air ventilation system. Sustainability is top of mind and there are many energy efficient elements in the home. They include a roof deck, solar panel system, extra insulation and triple paned windows. The windows and insulation also knock out street noise. The house is decorated with a mix of MCM furniture along with a fabulous Milo Baughman couch set that screams cool 70’s!

We live here with our two children and our street cat Luna. We live on the top three floors. Our portion of the house is a generous 2,100 sf. There is also a two bedroom garden apartment that is home to a family of three and two cats who rule the roost.
