From Daniel McClendon

The Lift (Studios) is the working studio and gallery of artist Daniel McClendon. It is located in Asheville, NC's River Arts District, which was once the industrial hub of the city being located right on the railroad tracks and the French Broad River.
The building was originally built in 1907 by The National Biscuit Company (now NABISCO). It had fallen into sever disrepair when Daniel and his wife purhcased it in 2011 with the dream of eventually having it function as a studio and gallery.

It's designed in a minimal, clean and utilitarian way. With 5000 sq feet to work with it's expansive and was designed to make every area of the building feel accessible. Some of the features like the split level, the bridge and steel with cable wire railings created solidity and transparency while allowing the artwork to take center stage. Most of the sq footage is exhibition space, but it is also where Daniel creates the majority of his work. It's a beautiful blend of old and new.
