Home Theatre - As one enters the home theatre, it is altogether a different world in itself. In stark contrast to the entire house, the theatre room is engulfed in black. The cosy feel is further accentuated by wood rafters that run along the ceiling and continue down the walls. The theatre is a study in acoustic detailing. Tucked at the back is a small bar area with a blue cabinet designed by us. The wave pattern on the shutters finished with lacquer paint houses a mini fridge and utility. A raised floor level demarcates the bar subtly. The wooden rafters in the seating area help in sound absorption and also hide a door leading to a bathroom.

To the left of the formal living space, a beautiful passage leads to the dining area. The centrally located passage is the heart of the house, having doors opening up on both the longer sides of it. As one walks from the formal living to the dining, the home theatre and power bathroom doors hidden in the wood panels are on the left, while two doors lead to the terrace area on the right with a small temple space tucked between them. The terrace and temple doors with wood frames and fluted glass panes bring altered light into the passage. The passage culminates in a huge space housing the family living, dining and an open kitchen. Neutral tones and veneer continue in this space to lend a seamless feel.

The central positioning of the dining table allows it to be a focal point of the space. It also allows the family to connect over activities as these areas are juxtaposed together. The eight-seater dining table has a marble top with a wooden base and brass accenting. The marble has hues of brown, beige and blue which perfectly compliment the powder blue dining chairs. A set of 4 hanging lights finished in black powder coating light up the space. The wooden ceiling above the dining room corresponds to the ceiling in the formal living room, hiding the HVAC.

The family living has a huge L-shaped sofa from Hanuzzi in a warm tone of beige brown. Both the walls behind this sofa are flanked by wall-to-wall windows. Curtains, wall colour and sofa are all washed in the same hue giving a subtle monochromatic look. A minimalistic wooden table from IKEA compliments the setup. This is the space where the family unwinds and interacts with each other and watches TV. The TV wall is clad and designed in such a way that it hides the door to the parents’ room and balances the centre.

A young couple approached us in the latter part of 2020 for designing their 5000 sq. ft. apartment. Our first discussion over a Zoom session for the clients to understand our design philosophy and process led us to know that our vibes matched. The entire process became very smooth as their choices aligned with our firm’s design philosophy.

They were very clear with their basic requirements. The couple wanted a contemporary, minimal setup. Hence, we opted for a timeless interior design rendered with a Scandinavian and Zen feel.
It took us a little over a year to complete the work amid the second lockdown and various challenges that came along with it. The clients’ active involvement in the design process helped us craft tailor-made spaces suited to their lifestyles and needs.

As one enters the private lift lobby, a tinted mirrored panel catches your reflection, with a sleek horizontal unit cantilevered to store footwear and sit. On the right the warm wooden tones of the main door and panelling greet you. To the left is another passage making way for the building staircase and other lifts.

Formal and family living area windows open out on the terrace and act as a visual connection. Faux Venetian windows with tinted mirrors and white louvres act as a play to enhance the terrace.
Opposite the terrace doors, a hidden door opens to the home theatre. Along with the door, the wood panelling also camouflages a switchboard made by Digital Dreams from the same veneer that is used on the panel.

All four bedrooms of the apartment are equal in size and formation. They are positioned at the 4 extreme corners of the floor plate. Each bedroom has a small area for walk-in, an attached bathroom and a balcony. Two bedrooms are accessed from the family living zone and the other two are from the formal living area.
