Renovating an 80's contemporary home. An email with PDF and full description was submitted to edit@dwell.com. Before/After renderings are attached. We are in the middle of the renovation process, so those are included too.

The home was originally completed in ’82, and were told by a local architect that the architect of this home was Horace Gifford. We purchased the home in 2011 and it went through an interior renovation in 2015. Both of us work in the city, and this was bought as a weekend house. We maintained the exterior, but the cedar siding, decking and large windows needed an overhaul. Over the past couple years we’ve found ourselves spending most of our time here, so we decided to add some interior space as part of the exterior woodwork.

The renovation includes clear cedar siding and ipe decking. The kitchen is being expanded, a new front-facing foyer is being added. We are also adding a garage and pool house/fitness area. The architect, Rolando Goldstein, proposed the dramatic pergola to balance the overall design and visually frame the exterior living space. We call it “Thunderdome.” The current interior size is 2,000 sq/ft and is being expanded by an additional 750 sq ft approximately.
