This project involved a thorough renovation and tiny side extension which converted a tired and awkward student rental house into a delightful home for a design savvy couple and their adult children.
A key move was to remove an upper level bedroom to create a dramatic double height dining space. This opened up the rear of the house to the garden, and provided drama amongst the relatively low ceiling heights in the rear part of the house.
All new windows and insertions in the existing double brick walls to the rear were black metal. This provided contrast to the heaviness of the existing white walls.
Overall the floor area was reduced in the upgrade. The existing house was in two parts: The original elegant nineteenth century house at the front and a solid but uninspiring 1970’s addition to the rear. We added a tiny side extension to the rear to house a new laundry.
