Serene in San Rafael was a special project because it just so happened to be for a very close friends parents. We all know the wise tale of not mixing work and friendships but in this instance it was a perfect marriage. This living room hadn't been updated since the family first bought their home and was long overdue for an update. The catalyst for the renovation was the large chunky brick fireplace that was consuming the room.
The clients main goal was to seamlessly blend this space into their outdoor living area that they spend much of time relaxing and entertaining in. So naturally bringing the outdoors in was a huge component of the project along with tying in the couples love for travel. The room brings the outdoors in through the use of earthy tones like sage green on the feature wall, natural wood floating shelves, and a patterned tile fireplace reminiscent of organic textures. The space is layered with personal collected items nodding to the client’s love for travel. The influence of their Asian keepsakes quickly became a design element that tied everything together in a modern way.
