From Susan Andres

Todd Jersey Architecture, Berkeley, California designed this three-bedroom, two-bath accessory dwelling unit on the steep slopes of Kensington, California overlooking the San Francisco Bay. Site planning was crucial to the functional and aesthetic goals of this project. A new concrete stairway provides access to the front door of the existing residence with an off-shoot to the ADU. A clear sense of front yard for both the ADU and the main residence ensures that both have their privacy while co-existing beautifully. This ADU features strategically placed windows to capture the SF Bay view while ensuring privacy; lofted ceilings to create a spacious feeling; and table, bench, kitchen cabinet and a closet door millwork from a tree that had to be removed to allow for the building of this project. Designed to be extremely energy efficient, it is super insulated, all electric and built with sustainable materials such as FSC certified lumber and a Harvest Pod heat pump and smart thermal battery. A short time after completion, this beautiful project has been rented out to new residents creating passive income for the property owners.
