Inspired by safari photos of sand hills and termite mounds, the wooden play space was custom-made using sheets of plywood and provides an escape from reality. Wooden rings hung from the rafters add another element of play.

In the far corner of the room, a three dimensional wooden bust of an elephant emerges from the mural. The bust is mapped with video projections enabled by Lightform.

The walls are covered in Calico’s ombre wallpaper and create the room’s backdrop, a song to the African sky at dawn. For an unexpected layer, artist Cody Blocker painted silhouettes of safari animals.

We veered from the expected when tackling this bedroom project. Tasked with creating a playful yet sophisticated kid’s bedroom — a room that would feel young without feeling too elementary — we turned a white box into stunning, safari-themed haven.

We integrated colorful and textural design elements throughout. The walls, wrapped in pink-coral-azure ombre wallpaper, are the landscape depicting the dawn-lit sky. They provide the backdrop for a mural of silhouetted, hand-painted safari animals and a light-projecting elephant mask that casts illuminating patterns. A custom-made circular hide rug, reminiscent of a giraffe, roots the room while a tree fort bunkbed creates lofted space; as if you’re in a canopy of trees. We further conveyed the desert theme with a termite mound-inspired play space for kids to crawl inside. Gym rings carved from wood hang from the ceiling, a nod to the flattop trees that dot the desert.
