From Cushing Terrell
The River’s End Houses (also see River’s End House #1) started simply with the goal of bringing new life to a single existing home on the shores of Montana’s Flathead Lake. Despite miles of largely natural shores, land is at a premium at the site of the River’s End Houses, located at the mouth of the Swan River in the picturesque community of Bigfork. After a preliminary feasibility study determined an existing structure was no longer viable, Cushing Terrell worked with the client to create value by proposing two homes where there was once one.
Lakefront living is at the heart of both River’s End Houses. Indoor and outdoor spaces all orient to the lake. Clean lines and complimentary materials characterize both homes. Simple and elegant, the transitional and efficient interior spaces leave the natural setting immediately out of their windows to do the talking. From there, the divergence is intentional.
House 1, horizontal and low-lying, familiar in form, makes the most of seamless ground-level outdoor living opportunities. House 2’s contemporary form, derived in part from its lot restrictions, stretches vertically and provides a bird’s eye view of the lake and mountains beyond from a rooftop deck.
