We slowly stroll through the Résidence le Sentier, following a cliff along its western flank while letting our gaze dive into distant openings of lakes and valleys in the Canton of Potton to the east. Designed for three adults wishing to spend their later years together in nature, this multigenerational home thoughtfully considers the increasing physical limitations of its residents. Without superfluous elements or intricacy, the Résidence du Sentier adopts an approach that showcases an exceptional landscape while encouraging a reevaluation of the programmatic, volumetric, and spatial parameters necessary to efficiently articulate multigenerational cohabitation projects.
Subject to a site planning and architectural integration plan (PIIA) for mountainous territories, the site dictated the carefully planned layout of the house along a narrow plateau. Embracing this constraint, the house was conceived as a pathway, with its sequential rooms unfolding like a walk through nature. Cleverly shaped thresholds create varying levels of intimacy. The project balances traditional elements – such as the concealed fastener steel roofing – with a refined contemporary aesthetic. The result – a minimalist, single-story volume topped with a double-pitched roof – demonstrates the added value of architecture in inspiring new ways of living and aging.
