Preston House is highly functional for family life, yet accented by moments of whimsy, colour, and craft that celebrate and build on the existing home’s character.
With two young children, the clients sought more space for all : bedrooms for the kids, a guest room doubling as a second living space, new work-from-home areas, and an open-plan living area connected to the backyard.
The design honours the home’s heritage, drawing inspiration from swirly verandah columns and simple brick-and-render craftsmanship. Cream skinny bricks and dark grey fibre cement cladding define the extension, bringing old and new together.
Inside, quietly unexpected colours bring personality to different spaces. Muted green, pink, and deep blue tones personalise bedrooms, while a dolomite stone splashback pairs with salmon-toned joinery in the vibrant kitchen. Bathrooms are designed for ease and joy, from the calm skylit ensuite to the children’s playful bathroom ready for big splashes. The open-plan living area is anchored by a large picture window, framing uninterrupted garden views.
Preston House is a home to be enjoyed daily and cherished for years to come.
