The canyon location offered privacy and seclusion in the heart of Pebble Beach, yet still had a fantastic view of Stillwater Cove. We envisioned a modern residence that nestles into the canyon terrain, to take advantage of the natural setting. Portal House was designed with the main living area, terrace and master suite located on the upper level to take full advantage of the ocean view.
The architectural design is based on the triangle and curve rather than the square, it creates a sense of a natural courtyard that embraces and connects the ocean view and the forest floor setting. The result captures a unique sense of privacy in the heart of Pebble Beach. A distinctive architectural bridge connects the main building with a secondary structure that contains the primary suite, guest suite and garage.
The great room area centers around a central hearth, that continues on to a large terrace. The floor plan includes a kitchen and pantry with a geometric stone and metal island that reflects the triangular architectural design. The dining and bar area has a mirrored wall that reflects the ocean view. All flows visually towards the outdoor terrace that includes a firepit, outdoor kitchen and a dining area that overlooks the ocean view.
Many design details add to the distinctive nature of the residence, the property has a freestanding workout room/ home/ ADU tower complete with ensuite bath. The architectural design is based on the triangle and curve rather than the square, it creates a sense of a natural courtyard that embraces and connects the ocean view and the forest floor setting.
