This 837 square foot tiny home is located on a wooded hillside in Bellevue, Tennessee, minutes outside of Nashville. But you would never know you are only a short drive to restaurants and shops when you are there. It feels more like you are in a cabin in the Smokey Mountains.

The house is made up of a 677 square foot main level which includes living room, kitchen, dining nook, full bath, bedroom and walk in closet with washer and dryer. There is a unique spiral staircase that leads up to a 167 square foot loft.
The staircase was made by layering sheets of plywood cut out on a CNC machine. The pieces were cut by a friend and assembled by the client.

The house came about when clients Nick Gowen and Mark Stanley decided to move to Nashville from Kentucky but couldn't find anything that fit their style. Both Nick and Mark have an affinity for Mid Century Modern design. So instead of buying a house, they found an amazing piece of land outside of Nashville and decided to build. Nashville is currently exploding and with construction costs continuing to rise, they soon realized that they would have to put off building their main house. Instead, they decided to build a guest house on the property and live there.

In all the house was relatively affordable to build at under $200,000, but that was largely due to Nick and Mark contributing a lot of sweat equity and taking on many projects themselves during construction.

Nick chronicled his journey with a blog, which can be viewed at The Dog House (nickgowen.com)

He lovingly refers to their home as "The Dog House".
