The Michelin-starred Lerouy restaurant has reopened in Singapore, featuring a show kitchen and a carte blanche French cuisine experience crafted by Chef Christophe Lerouy. The reimagined space, designed by Evgeniya Lazareva and Farhana Sudiro of Hot Design Folks Studio, offers a fresh and elevated dining environment.

Relocating to a spacious 220 m² venue, Chef Lerouy has subtly refined the restaurant's design and service, aspiring to earn a second Michelin star. His unique artistic approach to cooking is complemented by an industrial, minimalist aesthetic and a soundtrack of electronic music. "Our task was to reimagine the space and elevate it to a new level," shares designer Evgeniya Lazareva. The design concept features clean lines, metal accents, and a tranquil backdrop.

Lerouy's hallmark Carte Blanche menu offers an "element of surprise," allowing Chef Lerouy to create an inspired tasting menu driven by creativity and seasonality. The restaurant's ambiance reflects the chef's desire for mystery, enhancing the dining experience with surprise and delight.
The designers incorporated a theatrical theme, using curtains to maintain an air of mystery. When drawn, they conceal the space; when opened, they reveal its magic. This dynamic is mirrored in the bar at the entrance, where guests first pass through before discovering the dining room.

The main dining area resembles a theater hall, with tables facing the "stage"—the open kitchen. Guests can observe the culinary performance of Chef Lerouy and his team. "We aimed to create a neutral yet warm atmosphere, adding a touch of glamor with velvet drapes, accent lighting, and custom-made furniture from natural marble and leather," explains Lazareva.

Lighting plays a crucial role, subtly enhancing the sense of mystery or spotlighting the open kitchen. The long, narrow layout typical of Singapore’s shophouses was visually expanded with mirrors and bronze elements. A creative solution to technical challenges with the false ceiling resulted in a vaulted ceiling, evoking the wine cellars of Chef Lerouy's childhood in France.

“Our goal was to craft the perfect setting to highlight and enhance the chef’s culinary art,” say the project authors. The room finishes include beige pearlescent plaster and bronze wall panels arranged in a dynamic staggered pattern. The ceiling features beige travertine plaster, and the floor is adorned with large-scale serene stone-look tiles.
At the far end of the space are a wine cellar, a back-of-house kitchen, and restrooms, which mirror the main area's style with warm beige tones, textured pebble walls, and luxurious bronze accents.

Hot Design Folks relished the challenge of balancing technical constraints with aesthetic elements. The interior designers aimed to harmoniously represent the chef within his space, creating an intimate and relaxing atmosphere that allows Chef Lerouy to share his passion and expertise with his clientele.

"The interior design serves as a backdrop for the show kitchen, ensuring that no single detail overshadows another. All elements blend harmoniously, forming a balanced composition, akin to Chef Christophe Lerouy's dishes," conclude Evgeniya Lazareva and Farhana Sudiro.
