The images above are of a recently completed Master Suite addition in Live Oak, California. The client, a 3rd generation farmer, wanted to expand his childhood home for his growing family, a mid-century custom home built by his parents in the early 1970's. They requested a new master suite that would serve as both a refuge as well as a place to recharge. Rather than simply "adding-on", we created a stand alone structure that is connected by-way of a glazed corridor. The architectural language of both the structure as well as the interiors takes its cues from the low slung existing structure built in the 1970's, but with a updated twist. The Guest Suite addition incorporates the master bedroom, office space, master bathroom and walk-in-closets as well as a lounge area with kitchenette and private courtyard and reflecting pond. The house and addition blend seamlessly into the landscape with near-perfect views of the Sutter Buttes, highlight the agrarian location and orientation. In addition to the Master suite, we also designed a new roof structure over the existing outdoor patio to protect the occupants from the hot afternoon sun.
