Stephanie James is a passionate and ultra-creative designer. While her talents and efforts are typically working magic on luxury homes, commercial interiors and exteriors, the place she calls home was the recent recipient of an Allen and James makeover.

Allen and James Interiors is the design firm co-owned by James and her creative partner in design, Patti Allen. Located in the capital of home furnishings, High Point, North Carolina, the firm is known for its ability to create home décor to exactly fit the client’s preferences, style and ever-present budget. Their knowledge of furnishing, lighting, art and accessories manufacturers is second to none. With personal relationships with over 400 vendors, the firm’s ability to create one-of-a-kind homes is on full display in the James-Goldman home.

When the designer, and her husband, Michael Goldman, first set eyes on this 5,500 square foot house, situated in the historic Emerywood Country Club area of High Point, NC, there was a feeling it could be not only a forever home, but one that offered a perfect platform for showcasing Stephanie’s talents and design expertise.

From the architectural drawing board of Peter Freeman, this 1949 California Ranch with a mid-century modern vibe is on the registry of Modernist Homes in NC. Ripe for a remodel, the U-shaped architectural design is 75% glass with one of the first glass expanses providing views of the living area from the front portico.

As one enters the home, the designer ambiance surrounds you as much as the fresh colors, textures and artistry. The living room, one of the only original enclaves of the home, features a period specific copper fireplace and a mid-century sunken bar. Previous owners had tried to give the home a more traditional look; but James freshened up the design by opening up spaces creating larger flowing rooms. The entire home is adorned with art and textiles, finishes and furnishings individually selected by the designer to create this stylish and welcoming abode.
