The quality of natural light that permeates through the entire house was what drew us to this space, the design therefore revolves around enhancing this quality – through the use of limewash which renders a rustic, sculptural quality to the walls and becomes the backdrop for stories to unfold; to the Madhur Kathi blinds which allow just the right amount of natural light to filter in.

The décor is restrained, the ceilings are kept high & bare (no false ceilings) creating an enhanced sense of space & volume. An amalgamation of the old (furniture from our previous residence) with the new, a blend of tradition with modernity, minimalism and simplicity, multi-functionality and flexibility – the home is an eclectic mix of our design sensibilities and all that we cherish.

As we wanted to avoid civil changes, the furniture and the material palette are designed to seamlessly weave in existing amenities like the undercounter cabinetry in the kitchen and the bar unit from our previous residence in the living room. Multi-functionality and flexibility are the underlining constants in most of our work and our home is no exception.

The 4 seater dining table opens up into a 10 seater; all the furniture in the living area is lightweight & can be easily moved around to reconfigure the space. The picture rail at the dining table allows the artwork to be moved around in sync with placement of the dining table. In the Studio, the IKEA Gateleg table unfolds to create a discussion table for meetings, the drop-down tables along the wall open up for review of mood-boards and also act as additional worktops when necessary.

The master bedroom is spartan; the warmth of the woods, bamboo weave on the wardrobes, cotton handloom upholstery, the mooda & dressing mirror giving the space a traditional character while the clean geometry of the furniture renders a modern touch. The activity room (Guest Bedroom) is intentionally kept bare, with just a sofa-bench, repainted metal cupboards (both from our previous home) and a large Buddha’s Belly Bamboo plant - which takes centre-stage. A foldable futon, tucked into the storage space within the sofa-bench, becomes the bed when necessary.

This home is an ode to our memories, our travels, our interests and individual personalities. The walls tell stories of our travels, the plants – our love for the outdoors, the décor – our love for re- purposing objects and finding art/ beauty in mundane objects (material samples, core cuts, rocks, repurposed glass bottles etc). The flexible nature of the design and the neutral colour palette is intended to allow our live-work space to evolve and grow with us as time passes.
