Our design centered on the creation of a large kitchen that functions as the hub of the home. Two side-yard bay additions provide floor area for integral sitting and dining areas, while a folding window wall connects the space to a newly designed rear garden.

Located in the vibrant Fishtown neighborhood of Philadelphia, this historic townhouse was transformed from a compartmentalized, inward-looking maze of rooms to a light-filled home that embraces the outdoors. Our complete rehab of the existing structure centered on the creation of a large kitchen that functions as the hub of the home, and included two side-yard bay additions, each providing floor area to accommodate integral sitting and dining areas. A folding window wall at the rear elevation floods the space with light and provides a physical and visual connection to a newly designed rear garden, while a rich palette of color and natural materials adds warmth and visual drama. On the exterior, new shou sugi ban siding conceals the incohesive patchwork of finishes that were the result of multiple renovations and additions over time.
