Although the ceilings were beautiful and the kitchen designed for our lifestyle (small and efficient), it needed to be brightened up.

Updated kitchen. We used lots of white with metallic accents (both silver and gold). We kept the original Viking stove-top/oven and the subzero refrigerator/freezer but added an ice maker and new dishwasher. We took the large vent-a-hood out and opted for bright/airy pendant globes. We also removed top shelves and went with open shelving made of local barn wood.

The Master Bedroom when we purchased the home. It was owned by a widowed millionaire who basically did no renovations or updates after his wife's death in the early 1990's. The Master Bedroom is over 900 sq ft with a vaulted/beamed ceiling (painted "country blue").

We removed wallpaper, pulled carpet, and did some restructuring of walls, doors, and windows. My husband tirelessly working on carpet removal.

The back of house prior to renovations. It had a great screened porch and beautiful windows, but unfortunately, they were wood/old/rotting. They had to be replaced and the brick was painted.

Front view. Roof had a leak and look worn, so it was replaced as well.

This is mid-renovation. We replaced windows and instead of going with windows off the Master Bedroom, we chose patio doors (to be painted later) and added the deck and pergola. The view from the deck is gorgeous with rolling hills and a pond.

We left the copper awnings over the two front bay windows but added newer, open, black framed windows that gave it a more modern vibe and allowed for display of our stark white walls and lighting.

We updated the entrance with double doors, painted black, and landscaping (still in transition). We are still debating the red brick walk and retaining walls. The black gutters were a nice accent on the white brick.

The dining room had great coffered ceilings but it was dark with all the wood. We painted it all white, traded the old paned windows for new, open windows and brightened the room with recessed lighting in addition to the chandelier.

The living space mirrored the master bedroom in square footage and each flanked the ends of the "original" ranch house. Again, we updated with paint, new windows, and patio doors that lead to the screened porch.

This is the master bedroom before. This wall was framed for a long, electric fireplace to add some warmth and ambience to the room. The wall was covered in barn wood. We closed the door on the left leading to the master closet and recreated a way to the closet via the bathroom (door to it on right of bed).

Guest bedroom #1 before. This room was located directly off the master bedroom and would have served a good nursery, but, being empty nesters, this was not needed. Instead, I got the closet of my dreams!

A 1950's ranch once renovated. We made further revisions to update the interior and freshen up the exterior. We are still working on the exterior and are striving for a modern, mid-century, clean, minimalist style. Our four children are now grown and living on their own, so we geared the home to a more empty-nest, entertainment-ready feel with multiple areas for activity and relaxation.
