With a constellation pattern of recessed ceiling lights above, the dining room with window seat opens to the adjacent garden. Beyond the parabolic smooth stucco openings, a corner unit of aluminum framed sliding glass doors pocket into the walls for an uninterrupted view of the food forest of the front yard.
The dining room sits at the threshold between the garden and the interior. The exterior concrete floor blurs the threshold between outside and inside continuing into the dining room. The wood flooring wraps up the walls and ceiling in the kitchen creating a "wood womb": A complimentary contrast to the the pink and sea-foam painted custom cabinets, brass hardware, brass backsplash and brass island. Windows were intentionally placed on both ends of the kitchen to create a cozy space.
The dining room is a theater stage as the smooth stucco'd, parabolic curved opening frames the view of the food forest (and bistro patio) beyond via a corner unit of aluminum framed sliding glass doors that have been pocketed into the walls. The exterior concrete floor blurs the threshold between outside and inside continuing into the dining room. The deep window seat offers a place to read with the constellation pattern of recessed ceiling lights overhead.
The entry features a 5-foot wide and 5-inch thick antique door made of redwood! A reclaimed door found in a local salvage yard that with a little sweat equity revealed the wood below 7-layers of paint. The entry opens to the living room with views of the hillside beyond. Also, a built-in desk nook is fitted under the stairs. The cove ceiling is painted a light sea-foam color while the media cabinets and wall are painted black to obscure the television.
The sawtooth form of the staircase guardrail is utilized a number of areas of the house. A series of south facing windows at the top of stair offer beautiful natural light from above. The cove ceiling is created with a crown moulding detail and painted a light sea-foam color while the media cabinets and wall are painted black to obscure the television. A small door opens under the stair with another door off the child's bedroom beyond for a "secret" play area

An urban farm proposes an addition and strategic alteration to an existing 1946 home connecting a multi-level house to a thriving front yard "food forest" in hillside East Los Angeles: Re-envisioning the interior and exterior in the process. An elongated great room 60-feet in length connects the living, kitchen and dining areas with views of the greenery beyond. By folding the hardwood floor up the wall and onto the ceiling, we created a "wood womb" where the 14-feet long brass island is born providing warm reflected light throughout the day. The primary bedroom opens to a dramatic "gloriette" rooftop terrace overlooking the entire neighborhood.
