Charred Timber House

Showcasing the charred timber technique known as Yakisugi or Shou Sugi Ban, Abodo’s Vulcan Cladding has maintained the beautiful dark finish despite harsh weather conditions.

The Vulcan charred finish is a design feature intended to reduce maintenance for the homeowner – the thick char layer on the exterior of the timber acts as a barrier to the prominent UV rays found in the region.

Set in Wanaka where summer temperatures soar to 35 degrees the char layer reduces fading and recoat periods while maintaining a beautifully textured black surface.
