Cabin on The Lodge

Artist Anthony Gross has collaborated with architect Barnaby Gunning on refurbishing and extending a 1958 house on the edge of an industrial estate in South London.

Gross has created a dwelling akin to an artist installation: an observation cabin above the housing line with a 360° view of secret London sky, a deep curving train line and the tips of industrial roofs.

Framing specific views and creating zones for activities at different times of day the cabin has a picture window cinematically framing the train lines and another with a window seat pushing out on to large terrace.

A layered metal mesh frontage is circulation, balconies and a social area for the different floors.
