the parameters were set for this kitchen and the only structural modification was taking out the wall that separates the kitchen from the dining space to create a peninsula and install a funky island hood. the house is right on the border to the garden of the gods park and the views are amazing, so we opted out of wall cabinets and instead installed a 16’ long window that opened the kitchen up to the outside and invites the scenery in. the three-dimensional back splash tile ties in the colors and offers a fun backdrop to this unique setup. with the intention of making the kitchen feel like a part of the original house, the material selections were based on functionality and vintage vibe; terrazzo tile, flat panel cabinets, matte black fixtures and hardware and cream colored quartz with a angular waterfall to add some pizzazz. we couldn’t be happier with the result!

this mid-century home deserved an updated kitchen that hints to its heritage while bringing in new and bold features that catapult this kitchen into the 21st century. the color palette is fun yet classic and dares to challenge the conventional selections and choices. the round, black island hood is a unique look and certainly becomes a focal point in the space. walnut stained cabinets and smokey blue base cabinets maintain a mid-century vibe and create a beautiful juxtaposition and further emphasizes that the marriage of classic styles and contemporary features are great way to introduce the new, into an older shell.
